About Emotional Realignment Therapy
How do emotional experiences cause problems?
Traumatic or painful emotional experiences can leave a trace that inhibit the body’s natural flow of energy. These blockages can remain for the rest of our lives if we do not find a way to release them; most of us have at least some of these blocks within us. We may be aware of these or we may feel disconnected from our emotions, even the positive ones. Sometimes difficulties associated with the blocks show up during stressful times, when strength and clarity are most needed, or sometimes they have longer lasting and more persistent effects. Emotional blocks can cause physical or mental problems ranging from a vague feeling of heaviness to a complete incapacity to perform physical or mental tasks.
Emotional Realignment Therapy (ERT) can be likened to a spring clean or a regular service. You do these things for your house and your car so why not for yourself as well? ERT can help you remove blockages that have been inhibiting you for years!
What is Emotional Realignment Therapy?
Emotional experiences can lead to despair, anxiety or a vague sense that things are not right. The physical effects and residual energy of these experiences can remain in the body causing confusion and obstruction. The release of emotional blocks can enable people to experience a greater sense of freedom and joy and to deal with new experiences, unhindered by past events. ERT is a unique and innovative energy therapy designed to help clients release emotional blockages at their own pace and work towards a free flowing and naturally balanced energy system.
ERT works by helping people to permanently remove these unwanted energy blocks, freeing them from distress, apathy or unwanted behaviour patterns. Clients are able to gently release emotional blocks at their own pace resulting in an improved flow of energy in their body, which enables them to move on in a positive way. There is no need to talk about the emotional experiences if the person does not wish to; simply connect with each emotion and decide whether or not to let it go. The client remains in control of the entire process, the changes they make and how much of their experiences they share with the practitioner. If the client does not feel ready to release a particular emotion, the practitioner will simply move on to the next energy block.
How is Emotional Realignment Therapy different?
ERT is a different way to move on from emotional difficulties because it goes straight to the core of the problem. There is no need to discuss or analyse each emotion that is stored in the body as it is the energy of the emotion, rather than memories of experiences, that are realigned. This is also why the client themselves must be the one to choose what they do with each emotional block, for only they can know what they are feeling and how it effects them. This unique system is set up so that the practitioner cannot realign this emotional energy through their own choice or opinion: only the client can give permission for a block to be removed and realigned or left alone.
ERT has been designed to 'stand alone' in so far as there is no need for repeated sessions: what is released in the session is permanently gone from the person’s energy system. How much is released and how much progress is made is up to the individual. Some clients find that one session is enough to make the changes they are looking for in their lives whereas others decide to have another session, some time in the future, to build on their existing changes. Results may be noticed immediately following the session, whilst other effects may gradually become apparent as different situations are encountered.
Who is Emotional Realignment Therapy useful for?
ERT has already helped a wide range of people who all have the same goal - to free themselves of the negative effects of past emotional experiences. It is suitable for clients of all ages and physical ability.
ERT is particularly useful for those who:
- Intellectually understand their problems but feel unable to move on
- Are unsure of the specifics of their problems or do not wish to talk about them
- Are unable to remember all the details of deeply traumatic experiences
What does an ERT session involve?
During the session you will lie on a couch. No clothing needs to be removed except shoes. The practitioner may begin by using another therapy, such as Reiki, to help you relax. Once you are ready they will take hold of your hand to provide a contact point through which the energy blocks can be released. No other physical contact is required.
ERT can include some conversation about what is being experienced during the session but this is not a necessary part of the treatment. ERT does not require clients to re-live or talk about their past experiences but enables clients to simply feel the emotions that are stored in their body and then choose if they want to keep them or release them. By working on the core emotional blockages ERT is a time-effective method of addressing emotional trauma and difficulties because repeated sessions are not required.
As each emotional block is presented to you, you may be asked to briefly define the general emotion you are feeling e.g. sadness, fear, anger. There is no need to give any further details about what you are feeling or remembering. You will then be offered the choice of whether you feel ready to let this emotion go or not. If you do not wish to release something you can simply move on or stop whenever you feel you have done enough. The session will come to an end (usually within a specified time frame) when the client chooses. ERT sessions typically last for 1 ½ to 2 hours but may vary according with different practitioners.
